  Meconium peritonitis and ascites
#1

A premature newborn weighing about 1 kg in the reanimation department, with brownish-greenish skin, the surgeon came to saw the patient with me.

At abdomen US there are the aperistaltic intestines loops without contents and ascites with a echogenic debris moving in time with the baby' s breath. To be sure, the surgeon injected several ml of fluid into the rectum - the number and echogenic debris & ascitic fluid visually increased (intestinal perforation, meconium/fecal peritonitis and ascites).
