  Knee joint synovitis
#1

A 9 yo child with ankylosis of one knee joint is referred for an urgent ultrasound of the second knee joint due to its increased temperature and swelling.

Ultrasound visualizes free fluid in the joint cavity (suprapatellar, infrapatellar and in the area of the lateral meniscus) and thickening of the synovium (synovitis/ bursitis).
