A 10-year-old child from the surgical department of the Children's City Clinical Hospital with a clinical diagnosis of intestinal intussusception or appendicitis. Sent urgently for an ultrasound scan.

On ultrasound, the right lobe of the liver is slightly enlarged (+ 0.5 cm), the gallbladder is enlarged (+ 1 cm in length).

An area of a hollow organ with a thickened wall of increased echogenicity up to 1 cm is visualized in front of the head of the pancreas (differential diagnosis: gastroduodenitis, etc.). In all parts of the abdomen, dilated intestinal loops with heteroechoic contents and reduced or absent peristalsis are visualized (differential diagnosis: intestinal obstruction, etc.), intestinal walls at CFM with blood flow.

In the left upper quadrant of the abdomen, up to 5 ml of free fluid, in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen, about 17 ml of free fluid (differential diagnosis: ascites, etc.).

In the left lower quadrant of the abdomen, a target sign is visualized (differential diagnosis: intestinal intussusception, etc.), near a hyperechoic omentum (differential diagnosis: omentitis, omental infarct, etc.).
