Portal vein air in the newborn
#1

A newborn in the ICU of the Children's City Clinical Hospital, there is a catheter in the umbilicus, the main diagnosis is esophageal atresia. An abdominal ultrasound was prescribed for air in the intestines.

The reverberation effect (air) is visualized only in the left epigastrium (stomach).

The rest of the gastrointestinal tract is partly with content, partly without, on the CFM with blood flow, without reliable signs of peristalsis. There is a small amount of free fluid in the small pelvis, the uterus is enlarged.

In the anterior parts of the liver and in the projection of the large branches of the portal vein, there are a hyperechoic microinclusions (up to 1 mm), their movement is visualized in the projection of the large branches of the portal vein (gas), probably this is related to the umbilical catheter(air through the catheter enters the umbilical vein).
